Credit card firm states that billions will be spent this summer

According to a recent report from Sainsbury’s Credit Cards British shoppers are set to spend billions of pounds this summer, and despite the global credit crunch and the financial strains that many households are facing sales are expected to be only slightly lower than last year. Officials from Sainsbury’s Credit cards have said that consumers will spend around £7.89 billion this summer, with some tightening their belts only slightly as a result of financial strains.

A survey was recently carried out by Sainsbury’s Credit Cards, and showed that over twenty five million consumers will spend an average £305.90 each as the summer sales this year, and around 3% of adults in the UK are set to spend over £800. It is thought that close to half of the money that is spent in the summer sales will be put on credit cards, with around 11% of consumers planning to put the cost of some or all of their purchases on their plastic cards.

An official from Sainsbury’s said that those planning to spend on their credit cards in the summer need to make sure that they get a card that suits their spending and repayment habits. He said: "If you are going to use a credit card in the summer sales, it pays to use one that gives you attractive rewards that are not only easy to collect but also redeem so that you really are earning whilst you spend and getting a little back."

Sainsbury’s has recently launched a new credit card that enables cardholders to earn Nectar points with their spending, as well as a number of other benefits such as interest free credit on purchases for an introductory period.

His statement has been interpreted by many that the federal bank will come to the resuce of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, just in case they were in the verge of failure. This statement by Ben Bernake has instilled a lot of confidence into the minds of US investors which tranlated into the stock market moving up smartly in early trading session. Swiss Bank Accounts to be cracked down by UBS

As per media reports, UBS which is the world’s leading wealth manager has made a press release stating that it will no longer help high networth individuals base in the US to put their money in swiss bank accounts which are beyond the reach of US regulators. This announcement by UBS assumes significance in the midst of reports that the committe investigating the effect of offshore transacation on the US economy. It has been estimated that the US treasury had lost about $100bn due to offshore tax abuses. IndyMac Bank being investigated for Mortgage Fraud

IndyMac Bank is being investigated for mortgage fraud by the FBI, as per media reports published by some leading US newspapers. The reports state that the FBI is focusing on accounting fraud over the documentation of mortgage backed securities. The FBI, as per the report is also considering the possibility of insider trading. The FBI is reported to be investigating 21 banks which includes Countrywide Financial, the parent company of IndyMac Bank. Hopefully the FBI will come out with something which prevents fraud in the future in the US banking sector making it as healthy as it once used to be.

Bank of India plans to issue new bonds

Bank of India has announced that it is planning to issue bonds worth Rs. 7360 crores at an appropriate time in order to meet credit growth and capital requirements of the bank. The board of directors of the bank has given its approval for the tier I and tier II capital through the issue of bonds and through other means as deemed fit by the management of the bank from time to time based on the capital requirements of the bank as stipulated by the reserve bank of India and the credit growth requirements of the bank.
